No forced upgrades.

Availability of software from variety of sources.

Ability to do just what i need on my desktop/laptop i.e. 20 sec boot - 3 min email - 5 sec shutdown.

Control over internet usage for leeching more linux distributions ;-)

Stupid people are scared of my computer.

So I feel, Linux/FOSS - as a pure stream from the mountains of free software, should remain pure. Just to scare away stupid people.

But brands of linux/FOSS -- Chrome OS, ubuntu, suse, android, Maemo, etc. make it easy for everyone to use their personal cloud client.

As Time goes by and due to perpetual succession of Mobile/Cloud/Laptop/Desktop Computing, there will be a new breed of people who have evolved into better computer users

With the separation of devices Gaming, Internet, Productivity, Office, Server, Desktop, etc. it has opened a wide market for software.

Stream of free/open source software from the mountains is pure source code, based on this Organizations can create brands and communities

Only brands can be promoted and are active competitors in market. Brands go through QA and cater specific markets. We can't demand from the brand "Mozilla firefox" to act as a CD/DVD mastering software. We can't demand from the brand "Ubuntu desktop" to act as a Smartphone OS

But interested developers can use XULRunner to create a software to master CDROM. and Linux kernel can be modified for smartphones.

But to promote this new development they will have to create new brands separating them from FOSS in mind of layman

Branded smartphone OSs :

<a x="y" href="http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/08/21/canalys_iphone_outsold_all_windows_mobile_phones_in_q2_2009.html" target="_blank" style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; I am such student. I have term work for all subject and it needs certain human skills to complete it on time. First I need to interact with the world to gather data, I interact with my group to compile data and make it presentable. Finally, I come on stage and present.

It is not easy as it seems. Most of the time I got rejected by the people I approached for gathering information. Incomplete data, further adds to complete lack of confidence. I planned 15 minutes of presentation, on stage it becomes 5 minutes and voice starts breaking. I can see the class least interested in what's going on presentation slides. The presentation is over. Then I climb down from the stage to join the class in not listening to 10 other presentations.

Worst things to come, I can forget lines, I can forget topics and I can even get blank on stage. To add up this, public will throw stones in form of questions. This is a situation for a semester, then we learn to get it done, and I mean we barely get the presentation done. Why? I think this is because of lack of these skills.

This is where training comes in. There are many options for me to be trained for human skills. I can find a training program and pay for it, I can find a mentor, I can ask professors and lecturers, but in the end I lack direction due to endless information and sermons. If I pay a chunk for being trained I get the unfair advantage over students who can't afford. Heck! who cares about that in unfair world? And after all, these options are not available for every student.

College understood the problem and Dale Carnegie Training for students was arranged. This program raised the competition bar by raising the initiative amongst the students. Dale Carnegie Trainers have their own way to motivate students to take part in the program. Now, every student is polished in human skills. What is the magic they do? Memory techniques, conversation and human interaction skills, presentation and public speaking skills, stress management, goal setting and time management.

Students now participate in delivering seminars, arranging events, group debates and discussions. Everyday there is new challenge to be accepted instead of just barely getting things done.

For further information about Vidyalankar visit vsit.edu.in and visit www.dalecarnegieindia.com for information about Dale Carnegie Training, India.

Karma and Janma: My thoughts

Imagine...

What if I cease to exist this moment? What will really happen? While I am alive, I stop my breath, I can't keep holding it for more than a minute and I need to breath. What if it stops now? I'll hallucinate, I'll be unconsciousness and my mind will start dreaming. If it's a sweet dream, I want to sleep forever. If it is a nightmare, I want to wake up to react. I will have to wake up whenever I get scared, I will have to wake up to fight back or react to the nightmare. BUT I CAN'T! because I'll have no body if I die.

My search for existence will begins. I want to live to fight my nightmare. I want to exist just like a bee. No! Like a fearless tiger? Or bear! Or a bull? Some life I want to exist. I want to be here in a body to find peaceful dream.

perhaps I am dreaming and I am alive just to satisfy that forgotten dream?

I can imagine the following after assuming my body and my mind are two separate entities:
The only thing which makes me (my body) perform karma and face the consequences is my mind's desires. The only thing I can remember after my birth is that i have had mind since then. The only thing I can imagine after me i.e after my death is something imprinted in some level of mind. That time I won't call it my mind. Mind is the only level I can reach up to now.

I don't know why my mind wants to perform karma? It might be due to my previous karma or some other reason but that reason, I cannot satisfy to stop my mind from demanding more.

Whatever done by an individual is due to his desires. These deeds have a place in his mind and his mind has a place in the universe. This is because mind is like a drop of water, after the body is discarded this drop unites with the sea - Mind of the universe. Thus the karma is a written log in this universe created by mind and its desires.

State of mind is closely related in creating karma. The mind desires to be in a body to enjoy worldly pleasures. If actions are free from the influence of mind, it does not create karma and there is no desire to be born or enjoy the pleasures.

Death is a state for mind and a end for body. If state of mind is without reason you are free from the karma cycle.

That was just my imagination. Karma might be false. Janma might be false. But I am alive because of my birth and I'm doing actions desired by my mind.

This is my foolishness!
Thanks for your interest :-)

A Commet on my college

My college "Vidyalankar School of Information Technology" has posted my comment on it's website under the "Students speak" section.

I love Mumbai and also the most commonly used language here. I proudly speak Mumbaiyya! Because I can only speak in Marathi, English and Mumbaiyya.

Mumbaikar, The person who stays in Mumbai is called Mumbaikar. This name generated when Bombay was renamed Mumbai, the Bombayites became Mumbaikars instead of Mumbaites. It is a complete Swadeshi transformation of the name. Many of the Marathi surnames end in 'Kar' showing originating place of the person, the same theory was applied here.

Typical Mumbaikar is very easy going person who mixes up with crowd and interacts with others in local slang of Hindi (Mumbaiyya), This interaction is normally seen in public transport and street.

The personality of Mumbaikar is mistaken with rudeness (Reader's Digest Survey) due to the language used in common i.e. Mumbaiyya. Commonly strangers are called 'Boss' or with a noise made with lips called 'Mucchh'. Although ladies are always respected and called Madam or Behen-ji. The life of Mumbaikar is very tightly scheduled according to Railway Time-table. Any effect on world or surroundings never matter for Mumbaikar. The day always begins with the first Local and ends with a last local (train).

Contradicting to the Reader's Digest Survey, Mumbaikar will always help in calamities, Man-made or natural, he will always tip you about stock market, He'll always guide Tourists to Crawford Market, down town, and best food Joints. He will offer the staple food ofvada pav and pav bhaji.

Mumbaiyya, the commonly used slang of Hindi. We have long wanted collate a file on this deva and revive his rites as we are amongst the few still adhering to his worship. We have been made aware of some other works on him but we have not read those.

Mythology
The purANas narrate the core myth of the origin of the god revanta thus:
vivasvAn was given sanj~nA as his wife by tvasTA vishvakarman. vivasvan begot the twins yama and yamI, and manu vaivasvata through her. However, sanj~nA was unable to endure the excessive fiery lustre of vivasvAn and decided to leave him and go to the regions of the uttara kuru. She created a replica of herself in the form ChAyA and placed her with vivasvAn before retiring in the form of a mare. vivasvAn took ChAyA too be sanj~nA and begot on ChAyA, the inauspicious shanaishchara, the daughter tapatI and manu sAvarNI. One day ChAyA got into a conflict with the death-like yama vaivasvata as she mis-treated her foster son. Thus vivasvAn realized that ChAyA was not sanj~nA and through his dUradR^iShTi located her in the uttara kuru regions as a mare. So he assumed the form of a stallion and reached there. They copulated first via their nostrils, spawning the ashvins and then internally spawning revanta. He was born with a sword and bow, riding a horse and bearing a quiver full of arrows. vivasvAn said to revanta that he shall be the lord of the guhyaka tribe of yakShas and yakShiNI-s. He mentioned that at the time of forest fires and volcanic eruptions, and when dasyus and mlechChas devastate the land the mortal need to invoke revanta to obtain relief.

Versions of this tale are narrated in the viShNu (VP 3.2) and mArkaNDeya (MkP 78) purANa-s. The matsya (MP 11.2) and agni (AP 272.3; 273 in MBLD edition) purANa-s narrates a variant in which vivasvAn has a separate wife rAj~nI through whom he fathers revanta. The devi bhAgavataM mentions revanta as riding on uchChaishravas to visit viShNu, when lakShmI gets fascinated by the horse and fails to pay attention to viShNu. As a result he curse lakShmI to became a mare and generates the haihaya dynasty in this account (DB 6.17-18).

Iconography and history
varAhamihira states that idols of revanta should be shown on horseback with attendents hunting and sporting. This depiction of revanta is seen throughout the early medieval period throughout Greater India from Afghanistan (as reported by Priyatosh Banerjee) to the Vanga country. Typically he is shown with hunting attendants and is invariably accompanied by a dog. As with sUrya he is also shown with high-legged shoes and usually wields a sword and bow. revanta's iconography is strikingly similar to that of the deity popular in mahAraShTra, karnATaka and Andhra know as khaNDoba or mallaNNa. He is depicted as riding a horse with a a dog accompanying him and holding a sword. Further, khaNDoba is known as a manifestation of mArtaNDa-bhairava and an explicit connection with the solar cult through this link is seen in some khaNDoba temples of Maharashtra where he is show with a solar emblem. Thus, it is likely that revanta evolved into the local khaNDoba cult after the 12 the centure CE in middle India. Unlike the late vedic/"itihasic" deities such as kArttikeya and the pA~ncharatric tetrad and the rapidly evolving vinAyaka who spread throughout India, revanta's zone of initial spread (prior to 1100 of the CE) appears to only span the region from the northwest to northeast. His southern most spread in the east in the classical form is seen Orissa. The khaNDoba derivative appears to be a much later atypical variant that eventually reached the south and in the process lost connection with the classical revant. He has a prominent presence in Rajasthan and Gujarat which also correspond with the western zone of the old saura sect. Given this and the similarities in depiction of sUrya and revanta, it is possible that the shAkhadvIpi brahmins had an initial role in spread of the revanta worship. The epithet revant and its Avestan cognate raevant have been widely used for Vedic and Avestan deities including mitra in both the texts (see below). Given this it is possible that the name itself could have even emerged in the para-avestan Iranian Hindus.

Worship of revanta
There are several other references to worship of revanta in the purANas and associated texts.
-The agni purANa (AP 116.22) in describing the oblations to be made during the pilgrimage to the holy spot of gayA mentions that offering of rice balls to the 12 Aditya-s, agni, indra and revanta free on from the hold of disease and one attains heavenly pleasures. The garuDa purANa (GP 1.86.23 ) gives a homologous description of the rite at gayA, but in this the offerings to revanta are made to obtain good horses.
-The agni purANa states that making a gift of a horse consecrated to revanta decorated with gold removes the fear of death (AP 211.28).
-In the grand coronation of a king, where the entire Hindu pantheon is invoked to imbrue the rAjan with power, revanta is invoked along with kumAra, vinAyaka, vIrabhadra and nandI in one series of incantations (AP 219.18)
-The ashvAyurveda of shAlihotra states that periodically in the Ashvina month on the full-moon day the ashvashAnti rite for horses should be done. Amongst deities worshipped are revanta, for whom a lotus and pitcher with water are placed on the altar and 100 oblations with sesame, rice, ghee and white mustard are made (shAlihotrIya ashvashAntiH verse 6). A homolgous rite is mentioned in dhanvantari's hayAyurveda (verse 6) which states that oblations should be made for the safety of horses to revanta and tonic be prepared during the rite of the sarala, nimba, guggulu, sarShapa, tila, vachA and hi~ngu extracts ground into butter. The Kashmirian nIlamata purANa (NMP 394) also mentions that the owners of horses should make oblations to revanta.

mantra prayogas
The worship of revanta deploys the tantric mantras and tantricized R^igvedic formulae. First one meditates on revanta riding a horse with a sword and bow and an excellent quiver. He is accompanied by his dog and his horse borne pArShadas.

The one utters his gAyatrI:

|| oM ashvaprIyAya vidmahe sUryaputrAya dhimahI | tanno khaDgiH prachodayAt ||

Then one utters his names offering flowers:

1) oM revantAya namaH 2) oM vaivasvatAya namaH 3) oM saMj~nAputrAya 4) oM ashvapriyAya namaH 4) oM ashvavAhanAya namaH 5) oM ashvapataye namaH 6) ashvavidyAdhiShThAya namaH 7) oM shreShThAya namaH 8) oM nisha~Ngine namaH 9) oM dhanur-hastAya namaH 10) oM charma-dhR^ite namaH 11) oM suvarNa- bANa- tuNa- samanvitAya namaH 12) oM ugra-tejasAya namaH 13) surya-retasoddhbhavAya namaH 14) oM mR^igavyAdhAya namaH 15) oM dasyu-taskara-mlechChAdi-upadrava- nAshakAya namaH 16) oM yauvanAya namaH 17) oM ashva-pAlAya namaH 18) guhyakAnAM-patye namaH 19) oM AraNyachAriNe namaH 20) oM suvarNa-kavachine namaH 21) yamAnujAya namaH

Then one performs tarpaNaM-s or oblations with the mahAmantra of revanta:

rAM rIM ruM tAnAshiraM puroLAsham | rUM reM raiM indremaM somaM shrINIhi | roM rauM raM revantaM hi tvA shR^iNomi | raM svAhA revantaM pujAyAmI tarpayAmI namaH ||

One shall than install the yantra of revanta by invoking his parivAra of eight shakti-s:

OM rAM dIptAyai namaH | OM rIM sUkShmAyai namaH | OM ruM jayAyai namaH | OM rUM bhadrAM namaH | OM reM vibhUtyai namaH | OM raiM vimalAyai namaH | OM roM amoghAyai namaH | OM rauM vidyutAyai namaH |

Then one shall meditate upon the syllable raM at the center of the yantra.
